where it began
The Naked Doula started with Emma.
She was pregnant with her first baby in 2019 when her mum died of cancer.
So she was dealing with both grief & pregnancy, at the same time plus having to find her way through a medical system she didn’t feel particularly held by.
She had to ask a lot of questions, push for clarity, and make decisions without always feeling like she’d been given information in a way that actually made sense.
That’s where the shift happened.
It wasn’t that the information didn’t exist. There was loads of it. But a lot of it felt hard to take in, or difficult to use when it actually mattered.
When she got into birth, she saw the same thing again.
Women weren’t short of information. If anything, it was the opposite. But it often felt overwhelming, disconnected, or just not that useful in real life.
So she started explaining things in a different way.
She drew things out. Simplified what felt overcomplicated. Took away the language that made it harder to understand.
Not because she was trying to create something new, but because it worked better that way.
Women understood what was happening. They felt more settled in it. Less thrown by everything around them.
That’s what The Naked Doula grew from.

What started as Emma just trying to explain things in a way that actually made sense… grew. It just kept getting passed around. One woman to another.
More people started using it, sharing it and coming back to it.
Now it’s used all over the world (UK, US, Australia, Canada and beyond!) Books, flashcards, all of it built the same way she started.
Nothing complicated. Just clear.
To date, we've helped 1000's of women and there have been A LOT of births. And they’re not all calm or straightforward. Some go exactly how someone hoped, others don’t.
But there’s a difference in how women talk about them afterwards.
They don’t sound completely blindsided by what happened.
They knew what was going on around them. They felt able to speak up. They stayed with their decisions, even when things shifted.
That’s the bit that comes up again and again.
Not that everything went to plan.
Just that they weren’t lost in it.
